MEETING OPENING:

Karla Briggs made a motion to call the meeting to order.  Brenda Walton seconded the motion.  A unanimous vote ensued.  

Karla relayed a special “Thank You” to Regina Yegge for all the work that she does on the minutes of our PTA meetings and the PTA website.

Karla made a motion for approval of the Minutes for the October 6th, 2009 meeting.  Gretchen Mullins seconded the motion with a revision.  Gretchen brought it to Regina’s attention that the time on the previous minutes stated that today’s meeting would start at 12:00pm but it was supposed to be 11:30am.  Regina agreed to make that correction.  A unanimous vote ensued. 

 

Treasurer’s Report

Peggy Gilbert submitted a 2009-2010 Income/Expense report and a Year-To-Date report for 10/01/09 – 10/31/09.

 

Karla Briggs made a motion to approve the 2010 Income/Expense report and the Year-To-Date report for 10/01/09 – 10/31/09.  Cathy Wright seconded the motion.   A unanimous vote ensued.  

 

Principal’s Report

Linda Ventura reported the following:

 

The video commercial advertising the LSMS PTA Car Raffle, which Cameron Ventura put together, is now on youtube.com.  Cathy Wright reported that it was aired on commercials on channel 7 several times and was also aired during the Conan O’Brien show.

 

Next week is our Veteran’s Day celebration.  Chance Wilson will be doing the assembly celebrating Veteran’s Day on Friday, November 13th.  He will be providing a slide show which displays pictures of veterans, and service person’s actively serving in the military, which are related to staff or students of LSMS.

“Rake up Boise will be held next Saturday, November 14th.  This is an excellent way for the students to learn about helping others.  Students will volunteer to rake the yards of various homes in the Boise area.     

Nov. 30th begins the Santa Project.  Last year we had 73 families.  The counseling program figures out the families in need and reports that back to Linda Ventura.  Linda organizes this event along with the counseling department.  Students and staff meet at Wal-Mart and the students do the shopping for the families and/or individuals in financial need.  A specific list is supplied to purchase items specific to that child or family. 

EOC begins Jan. 11th.

Reflections

Gretchen Mullen reported the following:

 

The amount of Reflections entries by students to date is significantly down from last year.

 

We do not have prizes at this point due to lack of help with fundraising.

 

Cathy Wright provided Gretchen with $75.00 in Barnes & Noble gift cards that can be broken down to $5.00 gift cards for prizes.  

 

Regina Yegge suggested contacting Texas Roadhouse restaurant for donations.  Leanne Salo suggested contacting local businesses across the street from LSMS for donations. 

 

Today is the final day to submit Reflections entries. 

 

Karla Briggs made a motion to extend the final date of submission of entries to this Monday, November 9th.  Regina Yegge seconded the motion.  A unanimous vote ensued.  

 

Fall Fundraising

Cathy Wright reported the following:

 

The T.V. commercial is airing.  Cathy gave a special thank you to Linda Ventura and her husband Cameron Ventura for the making of this wonderful commercial to advertise our biggest fund raiser of the year, the Car Raffle.  Linda Ventura opened the video on her laptop for the PTA board members in attendance to view the commercial.  It received great reviews and applause!

 

Karla Briggs spoke to Mr. Peterson, of Peterson Motors, and Karla stated that she feels that they may be willing to extend the deadline on the raffle if needed.  The Idaho Lottery and gaming commission will have to give us permission to extend the raffle date as well.

 

Cathy Wright asked board members to “talk it up” (the car raffle) to everyone they know.

 

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Karla Briggs gave details on the various PTA stations at the upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences.  A discussion ensued regarding what to focus on with parents to get information out to parents regarding things like the car raffle.

 

Chronicle Newsletter

Marchel Dolar was not in attendance.  No report was given.

 

PTA Membership

Leanne Salo reported that the membership cards will be attached to the report cards that will be given out at Parent/Teacher Conferences.

 

LSMS accepted all 100 trees donated by a wholesale local nursery they will be sold for a $25.00 donation to LSMS.

 

Website Updates

Karla Briggs requested that all submissions or changes to the website be sent to Regina and not to Chance Wilson.  Karla Briggs suggested that website changes or additions should be submitted to Regina Yegge no later then two days following the monthly PTA meetings.

 

Regina requested help with entering important dates into the PTA Calendar.  Gretchen Mullins volunteered to enter the dates on the PTA Calendar.  Regina said that she would instruct Gretchen on how to do the updates.  Thank you Gretchen!

 

Karla Briggs reported that she had contacted the computer teacher at CHS.  Karla requested a student volunteer to help design the LSMS web site.  The students in the advanced class have to design a website project.  The teacher thought that she could probably find a student willing to do this for LSMS PTA’s website.  The teacher stated the design would be done well for LSMS PTA.  The teacher will get back to us later in the semester.  Regina stated that she and Chance Wilson are working on a possible website for the PTA that is free to utilize.  Regina said that she would keep the PTA board informed on the progress of this endeavor and that the student from CHS may or may not be needed to do web design depending on how this will go.

 

Legislative Updates

Jennifer Gravel was not in attendance.   PTA legislative day will be Sat., Nov. 14.

 

Library Updates

Librarian was not in attendance.  Karla Briggs reported that the book fair is going very well.

Librarian will make the box top container available at Parent/Teacher Conferences.

 

Staff Appreciation

Staff Appreciation luncheons will be held on Nov. 5th at 2:30pm, Dec. 10th at 10:30am, Feb. 11th at 10:30am, and on April 8th at 2:30pm. 

 

Family Fun Night

Melinda Bodine-Stevens reported the volunteers listed at this time for FFN, and what volunteers we currently need. 

 

FFN will be held on Feb. 26th, 2010. 

 

Regina Yegge volunteered to chair the Face Painting again this year, and Regina stated that she will contact her own volunteers.

 

New Business

Karla Briggs stated that the “lunchtime PTA meeting” will continue through December, and at that time, we will hold a vote on the time change. 

 

Karla Briggs made a motion to hold the December 1st PTA meeting at 11:30am in the LSMS Conference Room 1.  Regina Yegge seconded the motion.  A unanimous vote ensued.
