REFLECTIONS

(Formerly Festival of the Arts)

Theme for 2009-10

“Beauty is…!”

This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to express their creativity!

When children express themselves through words, pictures, music, dance, film, and other art media, they grow intellectually; they learn to analyze their thoughts and feelings. The Reflections Program helps parents encourage the creativity, self-discovery, and lifelong learning of their children.

Participation

Students may submit entries in the following categories:

·      Film/video production

·      Dance choreography

·      Musical composition

·      Photography

·      Visual arts (original print, drawing, painting, collage, photographic collage, metal etching or

punch work, fiber work, or computer-generated artwork

·      Literature (prose, poetry, or drama)

Participation in the Reflections Program is organized by school grade. Student works are critiqued against other works in the same grade division. Works are judged and awards given at the local, state, and national levels.

Deadlines

·         The students must submit a 2009-2010 PTA Reflections Program Student Entry Form.  These forms are available from advisory teachers and the main office at LSMS.

·         Deadline for all entries is November 3rd.

·         Judging will be during the week of the 9th of November

·         The Awards Ceremony will be held in the LSMS Library on Nov. 19th

·      Deadline to submit winners to Regional is December 10th

·      LSMS students will be given an opportunity to vote on all Reflections entries and 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place awards will be given out.

PTA MEMBERSHIP

The membership fee supports your child’s EDUCATION!

Once you pay your PTA membership yearly dues, you are a member and you have no further obligation beyond that.  It gives you a vote in decisions regarding your child’s education.  You are welcome to volunteer at LSMS but you are not required to volunteer.

How does your PTA membership money support your child’s education?

For only $10.00 per year for individuals, or $15.00 per year for entire families, you can help make a difference in your child’s education and your child’s success!

This year, your membership dues will go to support not only the teachers and staff of LSMS but to the LSMS Library to purchase much needed supplies.  Your membership will help to replenish books and materials which enhances, and financially supports, your child’s education.

Volunteering at LSMS:

More than 30 years of research shows that test scores are higher, self esteem grows, and schools and communities improve!  Children do better in school when their parents are involved.

You CAN make a difference.  For more information on how to become a PTA member, please contact Leanne Salo by email at:  lsalo@cableone.net or call our main office at 350-4060.
